28 Day Squat Challenge

The festive season is finally over and we’re back to business.. at least trying to be. For me, this season lasted for two whole months! No matter how hard you try, December is not a month you can count your calories and be on the healthier side. Chocolates, good food and wine are constant companions and honestly, I didn’t try very hard to avoid them ;). Although I did a run that month, every kilometer was a struggle.

January was a really really fun month. The in laws visit coupled with a trip to Dubai, where I completely fell in love with Arabic food *kitchen diaries alert*. I couldn’t keep my hands off the hummus, khubz and the kebabs, it sure was flavorgasm with every bite!

At the begining of December itself, I knew that all the fun and frolic will come to an end in February, and I had been seriously dreading it as the days to the month got closer. To kick things off, on Feb 1st,  I ran the Ramnagaram Marathon – big mistake!!! I will be writing a detailed post about why this run was an absolute disaster for me shortly, but the basic reason was that I was completely out of shape and I had not practiced at all. Big big mistake!

I came across the 28 day squat challenge a few days ago. Unlike the other 30 day ab challenge or the other squat challenges that float around on the internet, this looks so much more doable. The challenge gives you sometime to graduate to the tougher squats, which is what I like best about the challenge. Fifteen minutes a day, while cooking, or watching TV and you’ve got this down! You can find all the information you need here. (Needless to say, this is no substitution for the usual working out. Just a little achievable challenge)

So here I am, back to the start line of yet another challenge. I started my challenge yesterday. The reason I am putting it up on the blog is so that I’m accountable to finish it. (I’m quite infamous for stopping all my scheduled workouts in no time! This is sure to keep me on track.) It so much fun doing these challenges together. Who would like to join me? I will be posting weekly reports of the challenge and I encourage you to do the same.

Let the games begin!

WEEK 1 – COUNTER BALANCE BOX SQUAT

Phew! Such a relief to start with something simple and something you’re familiar with. Doing the squats is not the actual challenge, remembering to do the squats was the actual challenge here. The second day was a Friday, and I was to do thirty squats. I remembered it just before I was going to bed at 2.30 am and in a verrry tipsy state. But, but, but… I did it! So what if it was in my bathroom, I still did it. Word to the wise from not really the wise, doing squats in the bathroom in a tipsy state.. not really as much fun as I thought it would be. However, this week was fun. I managed to do all the squats.
