Five Ways to Keep Healthy During the Holidays

Isn’t the end of the year the best time ever! Festivities galore.. holidays here and there… all in all the spirits are high.. liquid ones too. As much as you want to watch that figure before you wear that expensive dress you bought for the New Year party, there is a lot of partying and binging that tempts you. This week’s ‘Friday Five’ link-up hosted by Courtney, Mar and Cynthia at Eat Pray Run DC, Mar on the Run and You Signed up for What?!  talks about How to Stay Healthy this festive season and here’s my two cents (Psst.. this list is more of note to myself so that it’s out there in writing).

*Determined face* Let’s do this!

1. Say ‘No’ to the last drink/ helping/ cake sliver

We all eat with our eyes, and during the festive season, with so much wonderful food around, the eyes get enormous! Saying no to the last sliver of cake = fewer calories you need to work out = 5 mins more sleep! Who can argue with that?

2. Moderation in the key

Yah huh! Almost a repeat of the previous point. Take it easy peps, you don’t need to have it all!! Moderation will make you feel good that you had what you wanted to and didn’t overeat. It’s a win-win.

3. Registered for a Half Marathon in January

I registered for a marathon just after the festive season as it will always be at the back of mind that I have to train. Hence, a little more effort and reason not to over do it.

4. 10 Min YouTube Videos

These are my best friends. I love love LOVE the 10 min videos. From 10 minute abs to arms to total body workouts and even HIIT training, YouTube is jam-packed with all the workout videos that you can lay your hands on. However, don’t let the ’10 min’ time frame fool you. These workouts are KILLER! I’m almost always dripping with sweat by the time I’m done. My favourites are Blogilates and XHIT.

5. Take the Stairs/ Go for that Walk

You can always find the time and motivation to take the stairs back home or find the 15 mins to walk around your block. For me the 15 mins walk is a great way to clear my head when I feel things are going just plain crazy. As my Dad puts it, it’s a great way to clear the cobwebs in the head.

So, here we are… just a few ways not to feel guilty this festive season. Do you think these tips would help you? Would you like to add something to the list.. lemme knowwwwww!!!!
