‘Sisterhood of the World Bloggers’ Award

“Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award recognizes the unique voices of women bloggers around the world.”

Blogger’s award!! Wow! Honestly, I never thought this day would come. Guess I thought I was not ready yet. Being welcome into this wonderful community of bloggers, it reinforces confidence in me as a blogger and someone with a voice. I have been so lucky to have made such wonderful friends in this incredible world of blogging which is forever growing. Just short of my ‘blog-a-versary’, this award couldn’t have come at a better time.

A big big thanks to Shruti, who is a dear friend and a wonderful blogger herself, to nominate me for this award. A little secret… it was the love for her blog that gave me that nudge to get back into writing and finally getting this blog up. I owe you so much Shruti.

As the rules go, I acknowledge the blogger who nominated me, answer her 10 questions, nominate 10 bloggers and as them 10 questions. So, what are we waiting for??

1. What is the most memorable food you’ve had while travelling?

I’ve been very lucky with my travels. I’ve had Tiramisu in Venice and Pizza in Naples (you remember the place where Julia Roberts went for pizza in Eat Pray Love… been there folks!), but the latest trip to Turkey was the best gastronomical trip.. EVER! I have been gushing about it since I came back. So much that I had to write that post in two volumes because I couldn’t stop talking about it! (The Turkish Foodie Part 1 and Part 2)

Even amidst all this great food, the highlight has to the the Baklava. Ohhh my Gwaaddd!!! (I’m drooling again!)

2. If for some reason you couldn’t return home and could no longer travel, where would you settle?

Oh that’s tough. I think I’ll go to Goa or any place on the beach, and open a breakfast place. I can never tire of the beach and the relaxed lifestyle. I know that’s sort of an oxymoron, beachy place and breakfast place dreams, but that’s me. My love for everything related to breakfast had me start the Sunday Brunch Series. Goa, perhaps, would be perfect for me. It would give me time to do the things I love the most – cook, drink and bum around 😀

3. What is the one superpower you wish you had?

Teleportation!!! Duhh!!! I don’t think I need to elaborate on this…

4. Have you met anyone famous while travelling?

Yes! Yes! Yes! In fact this is an experience Shurti and I had together when we were in London. (Well, I wasn’t travelling. I was living in London and Shruti was visiting me. She has written about it in her post here.) Meeting Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif has been one of the key moments in my start struck life, but while in Dubai, Viraj and I got lucky as we met the crown prince, Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum.

Handsome.. isn’t he? 😀

5. Is there anything you collect from your travels?

Shot glasses and fridge magnets. Coasters to some extent as well. The shot glass collection started when I was on my first ever trip overseas – Hong Kong and Singapore. I started my collection in Singapore. I had felt quite bad that I didn’t have anything from HK, but as luck would have it, I got to visit HK again.. and yes.. I finally got that shot glass.

The collection, now, has become my husband and my thing. We always try to find the most dramatic and quirky shot glass from a place. All my friends and family, know about my collection and love adding to it. (I do have good friends and family)

6. What is the best advice your Mom ever gave you?

‘If you like to cook.. marry a person who doesn’t know how to cook’… and marry a person who doesn’t cook.. I did!

I have no idea how it came up, but it’s ridiculous that off all the things my mum has ever told me, that is the one statement that stuck. Hahaha!!! How random am I?? I think what she wanted to say was that there will be one thing in the house that will be completely yours. Not that it was a consideration when Viraj and I decided to get married. Although, to be honest, guys cooking.. so hot!

7. What is a recipe you wouldn’t part with.. ever?

I think I’m still a baby in the kitchen. So much to learn, so much to develop. I haven’t reached the stage yet where I would have a secret recipe. Sharing is caring, dear friends, and what better thing to share than the joy of making/ eating good food!

8. What is your greatest fear?

Losing my memory.

I think this, too, is pretty self-explanatory. Life has given me so much and not being able to remember everything and everyone who have made me who I am, it would be heart breaking. Yes, losing my memory would get rid of the bad stuff, but who cares about that when the good stuff is a thousand fold.

9. What is the inspiration behind your blogs name?

What’s in a name…?

I had been contemplating for a long time what I would call my blog.. I had so many names wandering about in my brain, but nothing seemed quite right. I had created an album on Facebook a long time back called ‘A Bit of a This and A Lot of That’ to post pictures of everyday life, and that title just felt right.

We’re always so caught up with work, travel, this and that, that we miss out in the little things that make us happy or bring a smile in our everyday lives. This blog is dedicated to that… The nuances of everyday life.. The simple things in life that make everyday exciting. (I tried very hard not to be philosophical.. Failed right?)

10. When you are not travelling and blogging you are… ?

Thinking about the next post :). I am an architect and have a full-time job at a firm in Bangalore. I’m also training for my second half marathon right now and a lot of my time (off late) is being dedicated to it. But.. but.. but.. to be honest, if I’m not travelling, or cooking, or blogging, I would be curled up in bed reading, watching a movie or sleeping :D. I have no issues admitting that I am a lazy bum!
