The Eight Commandments of 2016

The 3Girls, Upasna, Shruti and I, took a wonderful trip down the 2015 memory lane last month. Seems quite apt that we look forward to all what we want the new year to bring. Now, I usually make my resolutions during my birthday. For me, that is the time to look back and reflect on the things I have been able to achieve and not. (Usually because I’m almost always in a depressed state of mind a few days before my birthday… I don’t really know why.. I guess it’s just one of my quirks.) This year, I don’t have resolutions, they are my commandments that I will live by.

1.Thou shall not drink again!!!

promise-to-never-drink-that-much-again

I don’t think that surprises anyone. I woke up on the morning of the first with the worst hangover. I’m not getting any youger and the hangovers are taking longer and longer to get over. Arrgh! I know that I will be drinking, but I have to make sure that I drink in moderation (only exception being my birthday!)

2. Thou shall make it a point travel as much as possible

Travelling took a major hit last year especially towards the end of the year. Work got so hectic for both, hubby and me, that we were not able to make any trips anywhere. With the exception of Dandeli two weeks ago, where I found a new love… kayaking! Hubby swore that I would take the kayak home.. πŸ™‚

I have been very impressed by Upasna and her taking 12 trips a year. She has been doing it for two years in a row! Can you believe that? It is absolutely impressive! I don’t know if I will be able to do as much as she does, but I sure will give it a shot! Are you listening dear Hubby??

3. Thou shall take a control of your online shopping addiction

My name is Pooja Deshpande and I am an online shopping addict. There you have it. I have said it out loud. It is time to uninstall all the apps and not fall for all the full page advertisements in the papers. *Blinders on*

4. Thou shall learn a new skill this year – It’s time to learn how to ride a motor bike!

I’ve been wanting to learn how to ride a bike for a long time. Although I have ridden my friends bike now and then, this year, I plan to pick up riding a bike such that I am able to go on bike rides with my my boys – My Dad, The Hubby and My Brother.

5. Thou shall train towards a 2.15 HM

This was one of my major regrets last year. I was not able to give time to running, something that makes me super happy. I had started training for the Bengaluru Half Marathon as early as July towards a sub 2.15 HM. Things went topsy turvy so badly that I was not even able to participate in the Bengaluru Marathon! Not something I was happy about. This year, my aim is to participate in the Bengaluru Marathon, which is in October, and complete the run in less that 2hrs and 15mins. I have 10 months to train. Lets do this!

6. Thou shall catch up on the reading that was neglected last year

9fc020886316eb9a41b530400e4338eb

As a kid, I used to read so much. Somewhere along the way, I got lazy and lost my patience to get through a book. Last year, I made it a point to get back to my reading, however, it was not as much as I wanted it to be. This year, I am challenging myself to read 25 books through the year. Hey! Do not laugh… baby steps you see. Targeting 2 books a month and one for good measure. You can follow my progress on Good Reads.

(Psst… I would like to challenge my mum to read 100 books through the year. I trust her to kill it in 9 months!)

7. Thou shall keep the house free from Bed-drobes and Chairdrobes

I just took a break and went to make myself a cup of coffee, and I saw the ever growing pile of clothes on the bed of my guest bedroom. Arrrgh! That is the most annoying sight ever and I end up putting my blinders on when I shouldn’t be. This year I pledge to ensure that the beddrobes and chairdrobes stop growing. (Sigh! That means I have to go clean up now!)

8. Thou shall live and let live, spread cheer and happiness to everyone around her

This goes without saying. The only way to be happy is to spread the joy.

Phew! Quite a list that is.. don’t you think? It’s a good thing that all the commandments are down in writing and will (hopefully) keep me accountable. I plan to update you guys on my progress with #8commandments2016. This will be fun to see. What are your resolutions for the new year? I would love to know!
