Turkish Textures

This post, in many ways, is a continuation to a post I had done earlier called ‘What do the Walls Say?’ Although the previous post was more a comparative study between the textures and art of Athens and Hong Kong, this post looks at two cities in Turkey – Istanbul and Bodrum. Although both these cities have rich histories and are a part of the same country, the feeling you get while walking through the streets of these two cities is quite different.

Walking through the streets of Istanbul, especially in an around the Sultanahmet area, you know you are walking through many centuries of history. The various layers of history are very vivid. Bodrum, on the other hand, makes  you feel like you’re on one of the Greeks islands already! While the city, too, has a rich history, walking through the streets lined with blue and white houses on one side and the sparkling waters of the Aegean Sea on the other, it gets you ready to kick the holiday spirit in high gear.

I confess that I have a fascination for walls and textures of a city. It is almost romantic when you think of all the stories the walls would tell you if they could speak. They would tell you how and why they got to be who they are, perhaps when you site with your grand father and he narrates his stories of wars, his trials and tribulations, the loves lost and found, and his journey that has an impact, however small, to make you who you are.

This is my journey and ‘romanticism’ of the streets of Turkey. I leave you with these images to form narratives based on your own interpretation of the Turkish Textures.

I would love to know what you think about when you walk through some interesting streets. Do you fantasize like I do, or would you rather not be there? Do share!

This post is a part of the 3 Girls and a #BlogAlong monthly link-up party, co-hosted by Upasna from Life On My Plate, Shruti from Msz Knowitall and me, Pooja from A Bit of This and a Lot of That. This month’s theme is  Photo Essays! We’re waiting to check out that visual treat you have for us.

  1. Istanbul is such a great city, isn’t it?? I kept on taking pictures of the walls and tiles and street art as well! I especially loved the blue Ottoman tiles! And as long as we’re talking about textures… I LOVED the turkish silk hand knotted carpets too. We really wished we had enough money to invest in one, haha!

    1. Ohhh the blue tiles! I fell in love with them! I’m so glad to know that I’m not the only one stopping and taking pictures of walls.. lol! Hubby found it super strange that I would stop every few meters and took pictures of walls.. haha! Poor thing.. he’s getting used to it 🙂
What I love most about Turkey is that it’s just so colourful.. and how vibrant the colours are. Being an Indian, I never thought I would be so surprised and excited to see the array of colours, but I was! I can’t wait to go back to the gorgeous city!
Thanks a bunch for stopping by and linking up!
      Cheers! 🙂

  2. I absolutely loved walking through the streets in Istanbul and thinking about all of the history there! Like you I tend to fantasize while I wander often making up stories in my head of what might have happened there. Beautiful pictures! 😀

    1. Thanks Lauren! I’m so happy to know that I’m not the only one who dives head first into this fantasy world. Istanbul sure is wonderful to walk through.. the streets and people so vibrant.. and the textures – absolutely gorgeous! If you can keep your eyes and hands off the food long enough to check it out 🙂
